Workshop on “the Rise and Influence of NGOs on European Policy”, Brussels, EP
Mr. Peter JUNGEN, EEI President, chaired this workshoptaking place in
the European Parliament. Mr. ZOUREK, Deputy Director-General of DG
Enterprise of the EU Commission, pointed out that NGOs play an
important role when politicians communicate with the electorate. Mr.
HORNER emphasized the importance of identifying the sources of the
respective NGO’s funding. For Mr. Gary JOHNS, Senior Fellow at the
Institute of Public Affairs in Australia, the solution for this problem
could not be more regulation of SMEs, because the right of freedom of
speech is critical to democracy. Instead certain NGOs wrongdoings like
infidelity should be published.
